About Us - Our Story

Welcome to Valley Wools

Hi, my name is Janet and I am the owner of Valley Wools, an independent yarn shop nestled in the heart of South Wales.

With the help of my Hubby and daughters we established an online store in 2007 and eventually opened a shop in 2017 on the Glynneath High Street, Vale of Neath (known as the Waterfall Country) We are situated close to Neath, Swansea, and the Brecon National Park (Bannau Brycheiniog)

Our aim is to stock beautiful, natural and sustainable range of wools and yarns and to helping knitters, crocheters, and needle crafters of every skill level find the materials they need.

Our Story

We started out as an on-line store back in 2007 and soon saw that there was a demand for our selected knitting products.

Following our on-line experience we went on to open our High Street shop in Glynneath in 2015.

Since then we have sold our ranges of knitting and crochet related products to customers locally, the UK and to visitors from all over the world.

We welcome feedback too but we do not flood your in-boxes for requests for reviews as we feel this is intrusive. Any reviews we get are therefore voluntary.

We love to welcome visitors to the shop and we are open Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays (no appointments required).

Of course we are open 24/7 on line.

Our Selection

We enjoy a close relationship with our suppliers and spend a lot of time with them deciding which products we are happy to sell in our store and on-line.

We believe in longevity and 'green values' and our stocks reflect this with natural wool and minimal acrylic content.

We want you to be able to knit items that last, but when the day comes to retire them they can be naturally recycled, not added to landfill.

All of our wools, knitting and stitching accessories are special to us.

Do we have a favourite?

Honestly, it would be impossible to choose.

From the stunning Malabrigo yarns, our vast range of British Wool from West Yorkshire Spinners to our growing Rowan range and not forgetting our Rico Ricorumi selection. They all offer something different and something special.

Our Expertise

I have knitted and embroidered/cross stitched since childhood, and like many crafters I was taught the skills by my Nana and Mum.

I do make items for display in the shop and I am always happy to share my experience of using the yarn.
