Katsushika Hokusai was a Japanese artist, ukiyo-e painter and printmaker. He is best known for his woodblock print series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji (c.1831).
This is the first print in Hokusai's series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji. The print was originally published sometime between 1829 and 1933 in the late Edo period.
The Great Wave has gone on to receive acclaim and popularity across Western world.
